Australian Army Chief’s Visit Advances India–Australia Land Forces Collaboration

Ceremonial events in New Delhi have cemented plans for a CLAWS–AARC memorandum of understanding, setting the stage for November’s AUSTRAHIND exercise in Australia.

Overview

  • On August 11, Lt Gen Simon Stuart received a Guard of Honour at South Block and laid a wreath at the National War Memorial to honour fallen Indian soldiers.
  • He held briefings with General Upendra Dwivedi, service chiefs and the Defence Secretary, where he was updated on Operation Sindoor and operational coordination in the Indo-Pacific.
  • Officials say a memorandum of understanding between India’s Centre for Land Warfare Studies and Australia’s Army Research Centre is expected to be signed during his visit to expand joint land-warfare studies.
  • Defence-industry discussions advanced on co-development between India’s Army Design Bureau and Australia’s Digger Works, building on recent Australian acquisitions of Indian ISR systems and protected mobility vehicles.
  • The visit bolstered preparations for the November 2025 AUSTRAHIND exercise in Australia as both armies seek deeper full-spectrum and humanitarian assistance interoperability.
