Australian Army Chief Simon Stuart to Visit India for Strategic Military Talks

During the four-day trip Stuart will meet General Upendra Dwivedi alongside senior Ministry of Defence officials to deepen interoperability within the India–Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

Overview

  • Stuart will meet Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi and other defence leaders from August 10 to 14 to discuss maritime security, joint exercises and defence technology exchange.
  • This visit follows reciprocal high-level exchanges earlier in 2025, including India’s Chief of Defence Staff trip to Australia and Australia’s Defence Minister visit to New Delhi.
  • Formal dialogues such as the 2+2 Ministerial Dialogue, Defence Policy Talks and Army-to-Army Staff Talks have institutionalised regular cooperation and strategic planning.
  • Bilateral exercises like AUSTRAHIND, Exercise Talisman Sabre and the Indo-Pacific Endeavour have expanded joint operations in counter-terrorism, disaster relief and jungle warfare.
  • Officer exchange programmes at premier institutions and emerging ties between India’s Army Design Bureau and Australia’s Digger Works aim to build leadership synergy and co-develop cost-effective defence solutions.
