Australia Recalls Parilla Fresh Alfalfa Sprouts Linked to Unusual Salmonella Strain

Food regulators warn consumers not to eat the listed 125g packs linked to the outbreak.

Overview

  • A nationwide recall was issued late Friday after a joint investigation, with Parilla Fresh voluntarily withdrawing affected batches carrying use-by dates up to 20 November 2025.
  • Authorities have confirmed at least 44 infections linked to the strain, including 18 in New South Wales, 15 in Queensland and 9 in Victoria, with further testing under way.
  • The recall covers 125g packs under Aussie Sprouts and multiple Hugo's mixes, all produced by Parilla Fresh.
  • The products were sold at Coles, Woolworths, IGA and independent grocers across NSW, Queensland, Victoria, South Australia, the Northern Territory and the ACT, with WA and Tasmania not listed in current notices.
  • Consumers are instructed to check refrigerators, avoid the sprouts and return them for a refund, and to seek medical advice if symptoms such as fever, stomach cramps or diarrhoea appear within 6–72 hours, particularly for higher‑risk people.
