Australia Post Sets Christmas Cut-Off Dates and Confirms $500 Million Adelaide Parcel Hub

A new high-capacity facility planned for 2028 signals a long-term network upgrade driven by surging online shopping.

Overview

  • Domestic deadlines include Parcel Post by December 22 for same-state and December 19 for interstate, Express Post by December 23, and letters by December 18 same-state or December 16 interstate.
  • International sending windows vary by destination, with Economy Air roughly November 21–December 5, International Standard November 28–December 12, and International Express December 5–December 18.
  • Australia Post says it is adding thousands of extra team members for the peak period and cautions that items lodged after the recommended dates may not arrive before Christmas.
  • Senders to or from Western Australia, the Northern Territory, Tasmania, and regional or remote areas are advised to allow additional days.
  • The approved $500 million parcel-sorting hub at Elizabeth in Adelaide will span about 83,000 square metres, process up to 400,000 parcels a day, consolidate StarTrack operations with AI-enabled sorting, and is slated to open in 2028 with the current Adelaide Airport facility to close.
