Australia Faces Extreme Weather with Heatwaves and Flooding This Weekend

A severe heatwave will grip inland areas while heavy rain and storms threaten flash floods along the eastern coast.

Temperatures are forecast to climb to 46–47°C in parts of Queensland, South Australia, and the Northern Territory, with severe heatwave warnings in place.
Eastern Queensland and northern New South Wales are bracing for heavy rainfall, with isolated totals exceeding 100mm and flash flooding already reported in some areas.
The Bureau of Meteorology has issued flood watches for rivers in Queensland and New South Wales, including the Dawson, Burnett, and Hawkesbury Nepean catchments.
Thunderstorms are expected along the entire eastern seaboard, with all major capitals likely to experience lightning and potential severe weather conditions.
The extreme weather coincides with NOAA's confirmation of La Niña conditions, which are expected to increase rainfall across northern and eastern Australia in the coming months.
