Les dégâts causés par une incendie à la synagogue Adass Israël, le 6 décembre 2024 à Melbourne, en Australie

Overview

  • Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said intelligence concluded Iran orchestrated the October 2024 Bondi kosher café arson and the December 2024 Adass Israel synagogue fire.
  • Foreign Minister Penny Wong declared Ambassador Ahmad Sadeghi and three other Iranian diplomats persona non grata with seven days to leave, marking Australia’s first ambassadorial expulsion since World War II.
  • Canberra suspended its embassy operations in Tehran, recalled its ambassador, and warned consular assistance in Iran is now extremely limited while urging Australians not to travel there.
  • ASIO director Mike Burgess said the attacks were linked to Iran’s Revolutionary Guard through intermediaries, adding the Iranian embassy in Canberra was not implicated.
  • The government will seek legislation to designate the IRGC as a terrorist organisation, with authorities also examining possible links to other antisemitic incidents, and no injuries were reported in the two fires.
