Overview
- Eight platforms must block users under 16 from December 10, with Reddit and livestreaming site Kick added to Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok, YouTube and X.
- Services on the list are required to take reasonable steps to prevent under-16 accounts or face penalties of up to A$49.5 million.
- Roblox, Lego Play, Discord and WhatsApp are not included for now following eSafety assessments, though the regulator says the list will remain dynamic.
- TikTok, Snapchat and Meta have said they will comply despite disagreeing with the policy, while YouTube and X have voiced opposition and have not committed to compliance.
- Kick says it has been engaging with eSafety and will comply, and platforms such as Twitch are still being assessed for possible inclusion.
