Austin-Travis County Whooping Cough Cases Reach 154+, Up 58% Year Over Year

Health officials are pushing vaccination and early treatment to shield infants and other high-risk residents.

Overview

  • Austin Public Health reports at least 154 pertussis cases in 2025, a 58% rise from all of 2024.
  • More than half of infections involve school-aged children, including 90 cases in ages 7–19 and 34 in ages 1–6.
  • Local data indicate most recent cases are in people who are unvaccinated or not fully vaccinated.
  • Authorities urge DTaP for young children, Tdap boosters for adolescents and adults, and Tdap during each pregnancy at 27–36 weeks.
