Austin Releases ACL Fest Travel and Safety Plans as AUS Warns of Peak Airport Days

Officials urge early airport arrival to ease heavy crowds.

  • Austin-Bergstrom expects more than 35,000 departing passengers on Oct. 3, 5, 6, 7 and Oct. 10, 12, 13, 14 tied to the two ACL weekends.
  • The city will close roads around Zilker and prohibit parking in nearby neighborhoods, with CapMetro, micromobility, rideshare, and an ACL shuttle from Sand Beach Park offered as alternatives.
  • Travelers are advised to arrive 2.5 hours before domestic flights and 3 hours before international flights and to use ABIAParking.com for reservations and real-time parking availability.
  • AUS lists three security checkpoints with the first opening at 3 a.m., TSA PreCheck and Clear at Checkpoint 2 West, and new TSA rules that no longer require removing shoes.
  • Allegiant and Frontier operate from the separate South Terminal at 10000 Logistics Lane, which is not connected to the Barbara Jordan Terminal, and passengers are encouraged to park onsite there.
