Austin Police Say Texas A&M Student Brianna Aguilera Died by Suicide After High-Rise Fall

Police say digital, video and witness evidence points to suicide, not foul play.

Overview

  • Detectives said a deleted digital suicide note dated Nov. 25 was recovered from Aguilera’s phone, along with prior suicidal comments, self-harming behavior and a suicidal text the night she died.
  • Police outlined a timeline showing she was intoxicated at a tailgate where she lost her phone, arrived at a 17th-floor apartment around 11 p.m., argued with her boyfriend on a one-minute call at 12:43–12:44 a.m., and was found on the ground about two minutes later.
  • Investigators reported no evidence of criminal activity, said all witnesses were cooperative, and noted the building provided full access to camera footage used to corroborate events.
  • Aguilera’s family disputes the conclusion and has retained attorney Tony Buzbee for an independent review, with a news conference planned for Friday in Houston.
  • APD said the investigation remains open with ongoing digital forensics and standard medical examiner procedures, and held the rare briefing to counter misinformation circulating online.
