Austin Police Arrest Suspect on Murder Warrant in Killing of Mary Gonzales

Police ask witnesses near Research Boulevard to share information with investigators.

  • The Travis County medical examiner identified the victim as Mary Gonzales, 43, on Oct. 8.
  • A first-degree murder warrant was issued the same day for Enrique Gomez-Urbina, 21, who was located and arrested on Masterson Pass by the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force.
  • Gonzales was found with apparent trauma in a field near the 8100–8200 block of Research Boulevard around 7:40 a.m. on Oct. 6 and was pronounced dead at 7:53 a.m.
  • Investigators said early findings indicate she was shot, and a nearby resident reported hearing a “pop” overnight before the discovery.
