Austin Man Re-Arrested on Murder Charge After Girlfriend Dies From Shooting

APD is treating the case as Austin's sixth homicide of 2026.

Overview

  • Police responded at 12:30 a.m. on Jan. 26 to a home in the 5900 block of Wagon Bend after a report that a woman had been shot.
  • The victim, 45-year-old Denise Tijerina, was found in the kitchen with a gunshot wound, was hospitalized in critical condition, and died on Jan. 28.
  • Officers detained 39-year-old Samuel Boardman nearby; investigators say preliminary findings indicate he shot Tijerina inside the residence and then left on foot, and he declined to give a statement.
  • Boardman was initially charged with aggravated assault and released on a $5,000 bond on Jan. 27; after Tijerina’s death, a first-degree murder warrant was obtained and he was re-arrested on Jan. 28.
  • APD homicide detectives continue the investigation and request tips via 512-974-TIPS or Capital Area Crime Stoppers, while local reporting notes prior drug-related jail time and a 2023 probation in an assault-on-family-member case.
