Austin Issues Citywide Parks Burning Restriction, Bans Fires and Charcoal Grilling

The move responds to dangerous Central Texas fire conditions.

Overview

  • The restriction took effect Oct. 29 and applies across all City of Austin parks, greenbelts and preserves.
  • Building fires and using wood or charcoal BBQ pits, grills or smokers are prohibited until further notice.
  • Propane stoves are allowed only in designated picnic areas; smoking remains prohibited in parks.
  • Violations may result in civil fines ranging from $300 to $500.
  • Officials will continually evaluate fire risk under City Code § 8-1-92 and issue a notice when the restriction is lifted, with wildfire resources available at AustinTexas.gov/Wildfire.
