Austin Hostage Crisis Ends in Four Deaths Including SWAT Officer

The incident began with a report of a stabbing, with one hostage managing to escape before officers arrived and informing them that the suspect was armed with a knife.
SWAT officers forced entry into the residence around 4 a.m., leading to a shootout with the suspect who immediately fired at the officers.
Officer Jorge Pastore, who began his career with the Austin Police Department in 2019, was killed in the line of duty. Another officer was injured and is in stable condition.
The suspect was killed at the scene, and two other victims were found dead inside the home. The method of their deaths is currently unclear.
The incident is being investigated by both the Austin Police Department's internal affairs division and the department's special investigation unit in conjunction with the Travis County District Attorney's Office.
