Austin Debuts New City Logo After $1.1 Million Rebrand

Officials say a unified brand will replace more than 300 department marks to improve recognition.

Overview

  • The digital launch is set for Oct. 1, with websites, social media and other online assets switching first and physical updates phased over time.
  • Police, fire and EMS uniforms will not change, and other items like vehicles and facility signage will transition on department schedules.
  • City materials put the total at about $1,117,558, including roughly $640,000 for vendor work, $200,000 for design and $115,000 for a public awareness campaign.
  • TKO and Pentagram developed the system, with Pentagram partner DJ Stout leading visual design that references Austin’s hills, rivers and “violet crown” skies.
  • Reaction since the unveiling includes a petition from former council member Makenzie Kelly to pause or reverse the rollout, criticism from Rep. Chip Roy, and online comparisons to the longtime Dallas city logo.
