Overview
- The City of Austin announced it will not proceed with the planned Lake Austin drawdown that had been scheduled for Oct. 12–Nov. 30, 2026.
- City staff moved to cancel after engagement with homeowners, boat operators and lakeside businesses raised strong objections about lost revenue and disruption during the busy fall season.
- Stakeholders had proposed shifting the work to January–February 2027, but the Lower Colorado River Authority told the city it now avoids winter drawdowns to keep hydroelectric generators available for the Texas power grid.
- The drawdown would have lowered the lake roughly 10 feet to allow dock, bulkhead and boat-slip repairs and to remove sediment and debris, and some property owners who filed permit requests will be contacted about next steps and possible refunds.
- City officials said they will keep evaluating economic, operational, environmental and community factors and continue coordinating with LCRA and local stakeholders about future windows for needed shoreline maintenance.
