Austin Airport Finalizes Airline Pacts, Confirms 32-Gate Expansion

Decade-long leases with seven carriers secure revenue to fund the $5 billion Journey with AUS program.

Overview

  • City and airport officials executed 10-year use-and-lease agreements with Southwest, Delta, United, JetBlue, Spirit, American and Alaska, locking in gate control and the revenue model for the buildout.
  • Concourse B, now in design, will add 26 gates in the early 2030s and connect to the Barbara Jordan Terminal via an underground tunnel, with Southwest anchoring 18–20 gates, United assigned five and three designated for common use.
  • A six-gate Concourse M could open as early as 2027 as an interim facility reached by shuttle, with a mix of jet bridges and boarding via stairs.
  • The South Terminal is scheduled to close this spring for airfield work, with Allegiant and Frontier relocating to the Barbara Jordan Terminal.
  • Delta will control 15 gates in Concourse A and invest $250 million to modernize that space, while American will expand to nine gates under the new allocation.
