Overview
- Colored bands were visible to the naked eye across multiple French regions overnight from Tuesday to Wednesday, including Île-de-France, Oise, Normandy, Lorraine, the Alps and as far south as Bordeaux and the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence.
- The most vivid period in parts of northern France ran roughly from 03:00 to 05:30 local time, with a Mont Joux webcam capture documented at about 04:40.
- Météo-villes and other meteorological sources linked the displays to the November 11 solar eruption that launched fast coronal mass ejections reaching Earth overnight.
- Space‑weather centers, including NOAA’s Space Weather Prediction Center and the Alpine operational center, forecast additional strong geomagnetic waves late tonight, with activity expected roughly between 23:00 and 03:00.
- Observers are advised to look north from dark locations with minimal light pollution, as large cities are unlikely to offer good viewing, and similar auroras were also reported in Iowa and Bavaria.
