Overview
- Aurora Innovation has become the first company to operate fully driverless Class 8 trucks for commercial freight on U.S. public roads.
- The service currently runs between Dallas and Houston with no human safety drivers, supported by Aurora's SAE Level 4 Aurora Driver system.
- Aurora's trucks have already logged over 1,200 driver-out miles, following three million supervised autonomous miles and 10,000 customer deliveries during testing.
- Launch customers Uber Freight and Hirschbach Motor Lines are utilizing the service, which aims to address driver shortages and reduce operational costs.
- Aurora plans to expand its driverless operations to include routes to El Paso, Texas, and Phoenix, Arizona, by the end of 2025.
