Overview
- First responders arrived just after 7:20 a.m. on Sept. 13 to the 1800 block of Ashwood Lane and quickly extinguished small flames near the front entrance.
- Firefighters noticed signs of a basement grow and alerted police, who confirmed grow lights and altered electrical equipment that indicated a large operation.
- Investigators obtained a warrant and seized 330 cannabis plants, about 23,586 grams of processed cannabis, packaging equipment and multiple cellphones.
- Homeowner Ryan Prey, 32, was charged in Kane County with manufacture/delivery of more than 5,000 grams, producing or possessing over 200 plants, and possession over 5,000 grams.
- The 20-year-old roommate was released without charges, police said Prey’s facial injuries were from an unrelated Chicago incident, and the department asks for tips at 630-256-5500.
