Aunt Launches GoFundMe to Provide Headstone for Starved Toddler

A GoFundMe campaign seeks to fund a headstone for Abiyah’s unmarked grave with safeguarding review recommendations yet to be implemented.

  • Cassie Rowe has raised £1,680 of a £1,800 target to purchase a headstone for her nephew’s unmarked burial in a Birmingham City Council cemetery.
  • Four-year-old Abiyah Yasharahyalah died in 2020 after suffering severe malnutrition, rickets, bone fractures and dental decay under his parents’ strict vegan diet and rejection of conventional medicine.
  • Naiyahmi and Tai-Zamarai Yasharahyalah were convicted at Birmingham Crown Court of causing or allowing Abiyah’s death and received sentences of 19½ and 24 years respectively.
  • Forensic experts exhumed Abiyah’s remains in December 2022 and documented chronic malnutrition, bone deformities, multiple fractures and poor immunity.
  • A Birmingham Safeguarding Children Partnership review published in June criticized lockdown-related oversight failures and its recommendations have yet to be enacted.
