Augusta Gears Up for 160th Juneteenth with Free Festival, Museum and Community Events

Local gatherings celebrate emancipation through concerts, exhibits, scholarship raffles, educational workshops, vendor showcases.

Overview

  • The 9th Annual Juneteenth Festival will run from noon to 9:30 p.m. Thursday at the Augusta Exchange Club Fairgrounds with free soulful-conscious speakers, health screenings, musical and spoken-word performances, kids’ activities and vendors.
  • The Augusta Museum of History will open at 10 a.m. Saturday for complimentary Juneteenth events including a one-act play, children’s readings, historical performances and a museum-wide scavenger hunt.
  • Additional Friday highlights include a vendor showcase and hair competition by the South Eastern Youth Organization atop the Truist parking deck, a free trainer-led celebration by Lululemon and Endurance Fitness in North Augusta, and a Juneteenth karaoke edition hosted by The Pedal Pub.
  • Band of Brothers Augusta Inc. is sponsoring a raffle for Juneteenth Augusta Scholarships to support local students pursuing higher education.
  • Celebrations mark 160 years since Union troops freed the last enslaved people in Texas and reflect Juneteenth’s 2021 designation as a federal holiday and recent adoption by states like Alabama.
