Audubon Announces 2025 Photography Award Winners, Extends Contest to Chile and Colombia

The nonprofit uses the contest to spotlight steep bird declines, pushing hemispheric conservation.

Overview

  • Judges named dual Grand Prize winners: Felipe Esteban Toledo Alarcón for a Ringed Kingfisher in Chile and Liron Gertsman for Magnificent Frigatebirds photographed in Mexico.
  • In its 16th year, the program introduced Birds Without Borders and a Conservation Prize, with established categories including Birds in Landscapes, Youth, Plants for Birds, Female Bird, and Video returning.
  • The expansion yielded nine prizes for entrants from Chile and Colombia and eight for photographers in the United States and Canada.
  • Audubon framed the showcase as a conservation call, citing the loss of three billion birds in North America since 1970 and more than 500 species at risk in Latin America and the Caribbean.
  • Audubon said entries for the 2026 competition will open on January 15, 2026.
