Overview

  • Judge Ismael Moreno ruled on Friday not to prohibit the Sare-organized march and related Aste Nagusia activities after receiving police reports and a prosecutor’s assessment that a ban would be disproportionate.
  • He instructed Policía Nacional, Guardia Civil and Ertzaintza to monitor the mobilization for possible enaltecimiento del terrorismo or acts that humiliate victims.
  • The case stems from an AVT complaint seeking to block the event and urging scrutiny of the conveners and any ties to illegalized organizations.
  • The court affirmed its jurisdiction over a potential enaltecimiento offense while allowing the announced program to proceed, including a 13:00 march from Plaza Elíptica to the Ayuntamiento, a meal in the txosnas and a 17:30 event in Atzekalde.
  • Sare called the day under the Etxera Eguna de Bizkaia banner to demand the return of ETA prisoners, exiles and deportees, a framing that victims’ associations denounce as whitewashing terrorism.
