Overview
- Audible has released an audio-only adaptation of Bram Stoker’s Dracula as an Audible Original directed by Mary Lambert and now available to stream.
- The cast is led by Jonathan Bailey as Dracula and includes Ella Purnell as Mina, Louis Partridge, Aimee Lou Wood, Lesley Manville, David Jonsson, and Maggie Gyllenhaal as a gender-swapped Professor Van Helsing.
- Director Mary Lambert makes her audiobook directing debut and centers the story on Mina’s journals and letters to foreground a psychological clash between Mina and Dracula.
- Performances push vocal extremes to create immersion, with Bailey mixing seductive charm and guttural monster sounds and the production staging explicit, sexualized audio sequences for the vampire sisters.
- The adaptation runs roughly six hours, a condensed pace backed by an original cinematic score from Ilan Eshkeri that signals Audible’s move toward shorter, filmic audio dramas and could broaden how classic works are reimagined for listeners.
