- Auburn announced on August 18 that it will retire Cam Newton’s No. 2 jersey at halftime of the Tigers’ Oct. 11 home game against Georgia at Jordan-Hare Stadium.
- The move will make Newton the fourth Auburn player to receive this honor, joining Pat Sullivan (No. 7), Bo Jackson (No. 34) and Terry Beasley (No. 88).
- Newton’s singular 2010 season included a perfect 14-0 record, SEC and BCS national championships, the Heisman Trophy and 51 total touchdowns on 2,854 passing yards and 1,473 rushing yards.
- Selected first overall in the 2011 NFL Draft, Newton earned Offensive Rookie of the Year (2011) and MVP (2015) honors, led the Panthers to Super Bowl 50 and holds franchise passing and rushing records.
- Athletic director John Cohen revealed the jersey retirement to Newton in a video shared on Auburn’s social media, with Newton calling the honor one he will “cherish forever.”
