Auburn Football Chaplain Chette Williams Dies in Alabama Lake Accident

The longtime team pastor and former Auburn linebacker fell from a pontoon boat and was found deceased Sunday evening.

Rev. Chette Williams, chaplain for Auburn University's football team since 1999, died Sunday at age 61 after falling into Lake Martin in Alabama.
The accident occurred near Kowaliga Restaurant in Elmore County, where Williams fell while attempting to board his pontoon boat for a return trip.
Williams' body was recovered approximately 90 minutes after the fall, and an investigation into the incident has been launched by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s marine division.
A former Auburn linebacker from 1982 to 1984, Williams also served as the campus director for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and authored several books about his experiences.
Former Auburn football coach and current U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville praised Williams for his spiritual leadership and lasting impact on athletes over two decades.
