Aubrey Plaza Shares Grandmother’s ‘Move Forward’ Message in Today Appearance

She uses a new children’s book inspired by her grandmother to frame a measured return to public life.

Overview

  • Plaza appeared on NBC’s Today on Oct. 8 to promote Luna and the Witch Throw a Halloween Party, her third children’s book.
  • She credited her grandmother, Margie, with teaching her that “life is a party” and to “have fun and move forward,” describing the book as an homage to the women who raised her.
  • The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner previously ruled husband Jeff Baena’s January death a suicide at 47, and the family issued a statement calling it an “unimaginable tragedy” and asking for privacy.
  • Reporting has said Plaza and Baena were separated months before his death, following a long relationship that began in 2011 and a private 2021 marriage.
  • In August, Plaza spoke on Amy Poehler’s Good Hang podcast about a “daily struggle” with grief, likening it to “a giant ocean of awfulness.”
