Overview

  • Plaza said she is functioning and grateful to be moving through life but described coping with loss as a daily struggle.
  • She likened grief to The Gorge, describing a constant "giant ocean of awfulness" that she sometimes faces, sometimes avoids.
  • The podcast appearance marked her first extended public discussion since a January statement from her and Baena’s family requesting privacy.
  • Baena, 47, was found dead at his Los Angeles home on January 3, and a medical examiner later ruled the death a suicide; records noted the couple had separated months earlier.
  • Plaza’s conversation with Poehler included mentions of support from close friends and her dog Frankie and came as she promotes her new film Honey Don’t!, due in theaters August 22.
