Attorney General Bondi Dismisses Fraud Case Against Utah Surgeon

The Justice Department stopped Dr. Moore’s trial after intervention by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene with backing from Sen. Mike Lee, bringing to a close the prosecution over nearly 2,000 falsified COVID-19 vaccine cards.

Overview

  • Pam Bondi directed the DOJ on July 12 to drop all charges against Dr. Michael Kirk Moore Jr., ending his federal trial in Salt Lake City.
  • Moore was indicted in January 2023 on conspiracy and property-conversion charges for allegedly issuing almost 1,900 fake CDC vaccine cards, destroying over $28,000 of government-provided doses and giving minors saline injections.
  • Acting U.S. Attorney Felice John Viti filed the dismissal motion, arguing that dropping the case was in the interests of justice and avoiding Moore’s potential 35-year prison term.
  • Bondi credited advocacy by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene and Sen. Mike Lee for bringing the case to her attention and said Moore “gave his patients a choice when the federal government refused to do so.”
  • Although Moore’s prosecution has ended, the legal status of his three co-defendants remains unsettled as the Justice Department refocuses its priorities.
