Overview
- Crews were called to Cranberry Pond in Attleboro shortly before 9 a.m. Wednesday for a report of an animal in distress.
- Lt. Corey Blais said the swan had been trapped since Tuesday night and video showed it flapping frantically to free itself.
- At least three firefighters in water-rescue suits waded into chest-deep water about 100 feet from shore to reach the bird.
- The swan resisted as rescuers worked, but they cut the fishing line entangling it and it swam away immediately.
- District Chief Mike Maitland said the real-world response will strengthen preparedness for future human rescues, and Animal Control assisted.
