Attentive Energy Pledges $10.6M to Boost New Jersey's Offshore Wind Industry
Investment targets supply chain growth and ocean-tech startups, with a proposed wind farm set to power 600,000 homes.
- Attentive Energy, a collaboration between Houston-based Total Energies and Corio Generation, is investing $10.6 million in projects to grow the offshore wind industry's supply chain and support ocean-based technology startups in New Jersey.
- The company will invest $6.6 million in SeaAhead to establish a business incubator program in New Jersey, and another $4 million in technical support for small businesses at 11 regional small business development centers across the state.
- Attentive Energy is proposing an offshore wind farm 42 miles off Seaside Heights, which would be among the farthest from shore of the wind farm projects proposed to date on the U.S. East Coast.
- The proposed wind farm would provide enough energy to power 600,000 homes, and its distance from the coast would address one of the main objections of offshore wind opponents who don't want to see the wind turbines from the beach.
- The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has established a go-slow zone for ships off Atlantic City to protect the critically endangered North American right whale, with less than 350 of the animals remaining.
