Overview

• Officers were dispatched at about 10:12 a.m. Tuesday to a reported shooting at Burke Avenue and Osborne Street in Attalla.
• Police say they found David Loyd Smothers, 40, dead inside a vehicle at the scene.
• Arthur Reynolds, 64, of Foley, surrendered at the scene and was taken into custody.
• Reynolds was booked on a capital murder charge and is being held without bond at the Etowah County Detention Center.
• The Etowah County District Attorney’s Office and Jacksonville State University’s Center for Applied Forensics are assisting the investigation.
