AT&T to Purchase Rivian EVs in Pilot Program

Deal Marks Rivian's First Customer After Ending Amazon Exclusivity

  • AT&T announced a pilot program to purchase electric vehicles (EVs) from Rivian, marking the first deal for Rivian after ending its exclusivity agreement with Amazon.
  • AT&T plans to add Rivian's commercial vans and R1 vehicles to its fleet starting in 2024, aiming to improve safety, reduce costs, and cut its carbon footprint.
  • Rivian's previous exclusivity agreement with Amazon, which placed an order for 100,000 EVs in 2019, was amended last month to allow Rivian to sell its vehicles to other fleet operators.
  • Future Fund Managing Partner Gary Black predicts Rivian will deliver 54,000 vehicles this year, including 14,000 delivery vans, and expects the EV maker to turn gross margin positive by the last quarter of 2024.
  • AT&T will also be the exclusive connectivity provider for Rivian vehicles in the U.S. and Canada.
