Overview
- Starting in 2026, the ATP will use the Wet Bulb Globe Temperature index to govern heat interventions during matches.
- When WBGT reaches 30.1°C during the first two sets of a best-of-three singles match, either player may request a 10-minute cooling break after the second set.
- Play will be suspended once WBGT exceeds 32.2°C, with resumption only when conditions are deemed safe.
- During cooling breaks, players may hydrate, change clothing, shower, and receive coaching under ATP medical supervision.
- The policy applies across ATP-run events, aligning the tour with the WTA’s long-standing approach, while the four Grand Slams keep their own systems, including the Australian Open’s Heat Stress Scale.
