ATM Fees Hit Record Highs Across Major US Cities

New Bankrate survey reveals average out-of-network withdrawal fees have surged to $4.77, with some cities exceeding $5.

The highest average ATM fees are in Atlanta, reaching $5.33 per transaction.
San Diego, Phoenix, Detroit, and Cleveland also report average fees above $5.
The rise in fees is partly attributed to the declining use of cash and higher operational costs.
Consumers are advised to use in-network ATMs or request cash back during purchases to avoid fees.
Overdraft fees have also increased, averaging $27.08 in 2024.
