Overview
- First showers have already reached Sardinia and parts of the Tyrrhenian coast on Monday as the disturbance advances.
- From Tuesday 16 December, widespread rain and thunderstorms are forecast, with a risk of short, intense downpours on Ligurian and Tyrrhenian coasts.
- Southerly winds will strengthen with peaks around 70–80 km/h, raising seas and posing hazards to marine traffic, especially near Sardinia and the Tyrrhenian basin.
- Significant snowfall is expected in the Alps with local accumulations of roughly 30–50 cm, while cold air and inversions could lower snow to 250–300 meters in parts of Piedmont.
- A brief lull is indicated from Thursday 18 December, though guidance suggests another Atlantic system could return by the weekend.
