Atlanta United Appoints Ronny Deila as Head Coach

The former NYCFC coach returns to MLS with a three-year contract, aiming to revitalize Atlanta United after recent struggles.

Ronny Deila, a 49-year-old Norwegian coach, has been hired as Atlanta United's head coach on a three-year deal through the 2027 MLS season.
Deila previously coached New York City FC, leading them to an MLS Cup victory in 2021, and has won six trophies across his 17-year coaching career.
His appointment completes a leadership overhaul for Atlanta United, which also recently hired Chris Henderson as chief soccer officer and sporting director.
Atlanta United has struggled since its early success, failing to win a trophy since 2019 and going through five coaches in as many seasons.
The team also acquired midfielder Mateusz Klich from D.C. United as part of its roster-building efforts under new leadership.
