The Georgia State Patrol is reconstructing the crash to determine what caused it.

  • Nearby residents broke a window and pulled the officer from the burning vehicle, and witnesses reported ammunition detonating inside the cruiser during the rescue.
  • Atlanta Fire Rescue extinguished the car and house fires in roughly five to eight minutes and transported the officer to Grady Memorial Hospital in critical condition.
  • The State Patrol’s collision reconstruction team is probing the cause, and officials have not confirmed whether any body or dash camera footage exists.
  • APD has not released the officer’s name pending family notification, and the earlier officer was uninjured with the suspect taken into custody.
