Athletic Club To Stage Pre-Match Solidarity Tribute for Palestinian Refugees at San Mamés

The event highlights a new Fundación Athletic–UNRWA Euskadi program delivering physical-education classes to roughly 8,000 children in Syria.

Overview

  • Before the league match against Mallorca, stadium screens will display the message “Athletic Palestinaren alde. Stop genozidioa.”
  • Honey Thaljieh, a club ambassador and former captain of Palestine’s women’s team, will be honored on the pitch with UNRWA representatives and 11 refugees living in the Basque Country.
  • The Fundación Athletic–UNRWA Euskadi partnership, announced on September 21 and now underway, will provide physical-education instruction at 16 UNRWA-managed centers in Syria starting this month.
  • Fundación Athletic has scheduled an October 10 media presentation at San Mamés featuring a screening of Les rebelles du foot 2 and a briefing by project leaders including Thaljieh.
  • The club frames the ceremony as a way to use San Mamés as a platform to raise visibility for Palestinian refugee communities.
