ATC Rejects PTI Bid to Block Imran Khan’s Video-Link Attendance in GHQ Case

Prosecutors began presenting digital footage to support charges stemming from the May 9 unrest.

Overview

  • Two police witnesses testified and handed over 13 USB drives they said contain 40 videos related to Imran Khan and May 9 events.
  • The prosecution said the digital trove includes CCTV retrieved from Benazir Bhutto Road, Mall Road, Liaquat Bagh and nearby areas.
  • The court summoned 10 more witnesses from PEMRA, the FIA, the PTI, the Press Information Department, Internal Security and the interior ministry for the next hearing.
  • The prosecutor cited a Punjab executive order and legal provisions, including 2016 CrPC amendments and Sections 15 and 21 of the Anti-Terrorism Act, to justify remote appearances.
  • Defence counsel argued a fair trial requires physical presence and indicated plans to challenge the transfer and video-link arrangement in superior courts.
