Atari to Delist Original System Shock 2 From PC Stores on Oct. 10, Bundling It With Remaster

Existing owners keep download rights, with new buyers routed to Nightdive’s 25th Anniversary Remaster.

Overview

  • Atari set October 10, 2025 for removing the 1999 release from PC storefronts, including Steam.
  • Owners of the original keep re-download access, and the 1999 edition will be granted to all current and future remaster purchasers.
  • On Steam, standalone sales of the legacy version will end, making the remaster the only way for new players to obtain it there.
  • The original remains available on GOG within its Preservation Program, and reporting notes no current indication of its removal.
  • The 1999 edition has typically been much cheaper (about $9.99 and often $1 on sale, currently $4) than the $29.99 remaster, and PC Gamer says it has requested comment.
