Overview
- Counsellor Kshitij Tyagi told the UN Human Rights Council that India needs no lectures from a “terror sponsor,” calling Pakistan a “failed state” that traffics in terror and tragedy.
- Referencing April’s Pahalgam attack and past strikes including Pulwama, Uri, Pathankot and Mumbai, Tyagi said India responded in a measured and proportionate manner and will defend its sovereignty without compromise.
- India rejected Switzerland’s call to protect minorities and media freedoms, describing the remarks as “surprising, shallow and ill‑informed.”
- Tyagi urged Bern, which holds the UNHRC presidency, to avoid “false narratives” and offered India’s help on Switzerland’s domestic challenges of racism, systemic discrimination and xenophobia.
- India also accused Pakistan of misusing UN forums and the OIC to recycle propaganda, as the exchanges unfolded at the 5th meeting of the Council’s 60th session in Geneva and drew wide coverage in Indian media.
