- Speaking by videoconference after a U.S. visa denial, Mahmoud Abbas condemned Israel’s campaign in Gaza, rejected a future role for Hamas, and said the Palestinian Authority is ready to govern the enclave if armed factions disarm.
- A fresh wave of recognitions by France, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Portugal and Belgium elevated the number of countries recognizing a Palestinian state to a broad U.N. majority.
- Benjamin Netanyahu denounced those recognitions as a “shameful surrender” and reiterated that Israel will not accept a Palestinian state as he traveled to New York to address the General Assembly.
