At The Hindu Sustainability Summit, CPCL Flags Water Gains and Sets Year-End Fuel Retail Launch

The refiner said its Nagapattinam petrochemical project now waits for Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs clearance.

Overview

  • CPCL reported cutting its water footprint by more than 20% over two years and reaffirmed zero fresh-water refinery operations through desalination and sewage reclamation.
  • The company said it holds licences for about 300 fuel retail outlets with a pan-India plan and expects to begin commissioning by the end of the year.
  • Sources told BusinessLine the first outlet will be a company-owned, company-operated site in North Chennai near the refinery.
  • For the Nagapattinam refinery-cum-petrochemical complex, CPCL said land of roughly 700 acres has been acquired and statutory approvals are in place pending final clearance.
  • Summit panels urged coordinated action on circular water use and proposed a dedicated undergraduate Water Resources Engineering programme, as speakers also cast Tamil Nadu’s renewable leadership as a national model by 2047.
