Overview

• A boat carrying around 100 migrants capsized in La Restinga port on El Hierro at about 9:30 am on May 28, resulting in at least five deaths and one infant reported missing.
• The vessel overturned five metres from the dock when passengers shifted weight to board a Spanish Maritime Rescue boat.
• Search-and-rescue operations involve the Canary Islands Emergency Service, Spanish Maritime Rescue, National Police, dock workers, diving clubs and the Red Cross.
