At KGMU Convocation, Nadda Touts Health Expansion, Tells Young Doctors Not To Cite Lack of Facilities

The health minister used KGMU's convocation to press graduates to stay engaged with India’s strengthened system.

Overview

  • Nadda said graduates are free to work abroad but should not claim India lacks infrastructure, asserting institutions and facilities are in place.
  • He cited expansion to 23 AIIMS and growth in medical colleges from 387 to 819, with UG seats rising from 51,000 to 1,19,000 and PG seats from 31,000 to 80,000.
  • The minister said 75,000 more UG and PG seats will be added by 2029, with over 23,000 created in one year, framing this as proof of capacity building.
  • He highlighted health protection of up to ₹5 lakh for over 62 crore people under Ayushman Bharat and noted more than 1.82 lakh Ayushman Arogya Mandirs are operational.
  • At the convocation, 2,441 students received degrees online and 81 meritorious students were awarded, as KGMU’s advanced services—including cornea, liver and kidney transplants and bone marrow transplants launched in 2025—were praised.
