At IIT Dhanbad Centenary, Gautam Adani Urges Resource-Led Path to Indian Sovereignty

He rejects external prescriptions on growth, casting control of resources as central to sovereignty.

Overview

  • Speaking at IIT (ISM) Dhanbad’s 100th foundation day, Adani said India must chart its own development path as global alliances fracture and nations act in self-interest.
  • He warned of “narrative colonisation” by historically high emitters seeking to dictate India’s choices, noting India’s low per-capita emissions and more than 50% non-fossil installed power capacity.
  • Adani announced 50 paid internships each year for third-year IIT (ISM) Dhanbad students and a new Adani 3S Mining Excellence Centre at the institute.
  • He argued that mining, minerals and earth sciences are foundational to future industries, stating that “without it, there is no new economy.”
  • Referencing the Carmichael coal project, he said the mine was pursued to strengthen India’s energy security despite sustained international opposition.
