Asylum Benefits in Germany See 8% Increase in 2023
The number of asylum seekers receiving state support in Germany rose to 522,700, continuing an upward trend from previous years.
- By the end of 2023, 522,700 asylum seekers in Germany were receiving regular benefits, marking an 8% increase from 2022.
- Syrians and Turks accounted for the largest groups of benefit recipients, each making up 15% of the total, followed by Afghans and Iraqis.
- 66% of those receiving benefits were male, and 28% were minors.
- Special benefits, such as those for health issues and pregnancy, were provided to around 274,500 individuals, with 13,000 receiving only these benefits.
- Most recipients originated from Asia, comprising 49% of the total, while 31% came from Europe and 15% from Africa.
