Overview
- Carolina Plascencia, acting head of the Asociación de Usuarios del Río Cuautla and a registered candidate for the Sept. 28 leadership vote, was shot dead on Friday in Cuautla.
- The ambush occurred around 3:30 p.m. on the Cuautla–Ex Hacienda El Hospital road near the Puxtla crossroads, where assailants on a motorcycle and in a vehicle opened fire on her car.
- The Morelos state prosecutor’s office cordoned the area and opened a homicide investigation, and authorities have not reported any arrests or identified suspects.
- Farmers and users say the attack may be tied to control over water distribution, citing Plascencia’s recent cutoff of service to Tenango in Jantetelco over a disputed concession.
- Activist groups renewed calls to pursue both material and intellectual authors, dismantle criminal networks, and reassess the controversial Proyecto Integral Morelos, noting earlier murders of Samir Flores and Asurco watchdog Francisco Vázquez.
